  EDITOR’S NOTE

 "Smashing News!

Lin Dan’s last minute withdrawal at the Li Ning Singapore Open was a great disappointment for his fans but he definitely made up for this with his triumphant win over Lee Chong Wei to capture the World’s No.1 title at the BWF World Championship Finals at London’s Wembley Arena. True to their form, the Chinese shuttlers dominated the event by winning all the titles at stake.

Our local shuttlers made quite an impact with Yao Lei and Chayut Triyachart surpassing expectations to enter the quarter fi nals in the Mixed Doubles category. Hogging the headlines was Derek Wong’s win over ex-World No. 1 Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia but unfortunately, he couldn’t take it further by losing on the 3rd round to unseeded Hans-Kristian Vittinghaus. Nevertherless, we are still proud of you all for your relentless efforts. Keep it up!

This season of The Yonex Open Japan saw winners from the China young shuttlers gunning down four out of five titles! Another stunning win came from world No. 4 Chen Long over ex-world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei in the men’s singles final. Definitely not a good season for him.

For the enthusiasts out there, fret not as you could very well be the next champion. To help you along, check out the “Coaching and Techniques” section in this issue and learn useful strategies using different strokes. These tactics will enable you to perform at your optimum by restricting your opponent’s gameplay and give you control over the match...for that ultimate win. This is only part 1 or 3, so be sure to follow our next 2 issues.

Have a smashing good time!"
